THIS SITE gives viewers a glimpse of the beautiful but unsung parts of Malaysia. As a social aid movement, fund generated from activities and adverts helps sustain OO’s operational cost and fund community projects in the Malaysian countryside.

OO is a nominee of 2008's Geotourism Award organized by National Geographic and Ashoka Changemakers. The award identifies and recognises organization that enhances the geographical character of a place: its environment, heritage, culture, aesthetics, and the well-being of its residents.

OO is listed in Hati.org.my, a resource and platform for people and organisations that are involved in community work in Malaysia.

OO is the regional partner of Survival International based in UK, an organisation that helps tribal peoples defend their lives, protect their lands and determine their own futures.

Voluntary simplicity is living a life that is outwardly simple but inwardly rich. With less consumerism lifestyle, our ecological resource suffers less impact.

TRAVEL springs from contrary thought.
If everybody is walking the same way,
no matter how well-done,
it isn’t particularly outstanding.

For a journey to strongly move the visitor, it must first affect the guide.
There was a time when travel meant beaches and islands in the sun.
Time has changed.

It has became an art of observation.
Unveiling mystery and beauty lost thru the passage of time.
Something others might not see.
Sometimes tragic, sometimes fun.
It’s about finding the extraordinary ….

Unsung nuances are our cup of tea.

Initially, we wanted to publish a guidebook. However, towards the launch of the book, we were still stumbling on anecdotes that begged revisions and rewrites. Some of these discoveries occurred right in our own backyard - Ipoh, Perak. A few days before the book was sent for editing, we got lost while finding our way to Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary. That little misadventure was an appreciated one for it veered us off to the surreal riverine villages of backwater Tanjung Piandang and Batu Kurau. We have travelled the length and breadth of Malaysia for the book and yet Tanjung Piandang’s last burst of sunset left us breathless. That magical backdrop convinced us we’d never fully encapsulate Malaysia entirely in one book. Malaysia is simply too beautiful and dynamic for a book to do it any justice.

Alas, we figured a blog would be perfect. It could cater to reviews, and most important, updates. Unlike most blogs which are too wordy, “Take The Path Less Ordinary” is short and sweet, a treasure trove of insider account that’s riot with images, tips and small bite-size anecdotes - easy digestion is the key. Also, as seasoned travellers, we hate extra luggages that slow us down. Hence, this is a minimalist blog, with no colourful decors, pomp and pageantry. Just content and quick uploads to your PC screen.

We want travellers to see the other side of Malaysia - the one that has nothing to do with conveyor-belt tourism. These were the key perquisites we had in mind when we started on this blog. It is the emotional value that makes travelling around Malaysia memorable.

21st century Malaysia has arrived at the mid road. In front, a new globalized frontier waiting for her to test her wings. Behind, her roots and memories. A race to the future is one that Malaysia dare not fall a step behind. Changes, everyone knows, are inevitable. Our only wish is that, in 50 or 100 years time, this weblog would help travellers and Malaysians rekindle the good ol’ days and perhaps cajole future photojournalists into doing a better job in portraying their era.

Dear viewer, let the journey begin …….
