Ladies, go ahead and play
The jungle holds nothing back, neither do these ladies.
Recently we played host to an awesome group of intrepid ladies and they certainly showed the jungle what they are made of.
All were mommies with families living in KL. It was a female bonding trip planned weeks ahead to escape the shackles of city life.
Armed with “anything [...]

National Geographic picked us - again
Editor: We got nominated in 2008, read this. We made it again for 2009. This just came in a few days ago and we are surprised. We are honoured because only selected responsible travel networks which truly give back to rural communities around the world are identified and nominated. So far, only OO Malaysia and [...]

Kuala Selangor’s fading flashes
“Another boatman Ali Hashim, 35, admits that it is embarassing when visitors are not satisfied with the light show. “They came from far and went away disappointed. We are disappointed too but there’s very little that we can do. It’s a shame if we lose this natural wonder to greed and ignorance,” says Ali” - [...]

Going wildside in Malaysia
Rugged places, flower patches and a whole lot of leeches. “Now I know why you asked for our weight, height and fitness when we signed up for this trek”, quipped Kasey between huffing and puffing on the gruesome uphill trail.
We recently hosted a lovely couple, Kasey and Michele from New Jersey US, into raw [...]

Ecotourism - Separating the green from grey
All over the world, tourism businesses populate grey areas because they are the best to rake in profits. Straddling between black and white cause confusion and clueless tourists are always easy pickings.
Obviously, ethical holidaymakers are skeptical about the green trend. They don’t know whether it has legs to move inroads or is just a fad [...]

A tale of the birds and bees
A bee-eater’s life is more like a plot taken out of TV soap series. Deceit, sleaze and power struggle, almost everything naughty and nice you can think of happens.
Bee-eaters dig burrows for nesting. When a female leaves her nest to feed, other females may sneak in to lay eggs, fooling the neighbour into raising a [...]

Modernity in disguise
Sleeping under a leaky roof has strange effect on people.
One becomes creative.
Bertam palm thatched roofing need a change every three years due to its bio-degradable properties. But if you do it often enough, like Bah On, someday you’d get tired and veer beyond the norm.
Last weekend during the Chinese New Year holiday, we dropped by [...]

Bird Watching - Baya Weavers are good hubbys
Call it genetic memory.
It’s amazing how the Baya Weavers (Ploceus philippinus), locally known as Burung Tempua, are born with nest engineering instinct and pure grit for making 500-600 flights to collect grass strips to build their domains. It’s no surprise that a single nest is known to comprise of 3000-4000 grass strips.
The nests come in [...]

Tanjung Piai for happy endings
Travellers who believe they are intrepid but ignore Tanjung Piai should be flogged.
For their own good.
You may ask “Where in the world is that?”. Well, one only needs to gaze southward to answer that question. If you’re one of those looking for some healing properties of a good weekend vista that’s untouched by conveyor-belt tourism, [...]
