THIS SITE gives viewers a glimpse of the beautiful but unsung parts of Malaysia. As a social aid movement, fund generated from activities and adverts helps sustain OO’s operational cost and fund community projects in the Malaysian countryside.

OO is a nominee of 2008's Geotourism Award organized by National Geographic and Ashoka Changemakers. The award identifies and recognises organization that enhances the geographical character of a place: its environment, heritage, culture, aesthetics, and the well-being of its residents.

OO is listed in Hati.org.my, a resource and platform for people and organisations that are involved in community work in Malaysia.

OO is the regional partner of Survival International based in UK, an organisation that helps tribal peoples defend their lives, protect their lands and determine their own futures.

Making it to Maliau

First it hugs you, and then it kills you. The strangler fig is no pushover in the botanical kingdom. It best epitomises Darwinism’s “survival of the fitness”. A fully grown fig can choke the largest tree to death and takes over its place.
Yes, this is how we like our jungle – raw and full [...]

Langkawi in bad shape

Forest and wildlife degradation happening under local enforcement dept’s nose; we hear this over and over again, all the time. Black Bat Lily - Is this the real one ?

Sightseeing comes in various speed. Some like cars, some cycle, but let’s agree hiking is best to pick up little gems that make the world interesting.

Spine-tingling gorges seem to scream “I’m dangerous. Go home!”. Cool highland breeze offers little respite for the splitting headaches that comes with inhaling oxygen-thin air. Amid breath-seizing moments and groaning muscles, giving up does sounds like a sensible thing to do. Yet, the almighty Low’s Peak that looms above seems [...]

Walking, Hiking and Trekking Trails in Cameron Highland

Before we ramble on, there’re some things you should know.
If you are new to hiking around Malaysian countryside and highland, and we don’t mean national parks where trails are proper and well marked, do it with some “what if” preparation before you start. You should know that Jim Thompson’s disappearance in March 1967 slingshot [...]

Sg Palas Tea Trail - Getting there from Tanah Rata or Brinchang

If you only have time for one trail, this is your best bet. Just aim for Tringkap (sort of).

Whether you are staying in Tanah Rata or Brinchang town, use public bus Regal Bus Co. or taxi and head north towards Tringkap. Regal’s buses ply the trunk road at 2 hrs intervals with the first bus [...]
